Meet the Characters

Lucy Ricardo (Lucille Ball) : Lucy was the undisputed First Lady of television comedy. She is the wife of Cuban band leader Ricky Ricardo and the mother of "Little Ricky" Ricardo. A housewife, she wants nothing more than to become a star in show business and it is this desire -- and the lengths she goes to in order to attain it -- that often gets her and Ricky in trouble. In an effort to prove to her husband that she, too, can make it in showbiz, she has been known to sneak into auditions even for his own show.

Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz):  He is a Cuban conga player and the band leader at the Club Tropicana in New York. His signature song is "Babalu." Ricky is a caring husband and father, but is a classic 1950s husband who worries his wife is spending too much money and wants her to stay home and take care of the house. He is not a big fan of Lucy's desire to become a star in show business, but occasionally tries to help her out.

Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance): Lucy's partner in almost every scheme, Ethel Mertz was considered a frumpy, older woman in comparison to her best friend, Lucy Ricardo. Always pestering the life out of Fred, and eating a lot of food, she was a regular at the Ricardo household, and always tended to Lucy's needs.

Fred Mertz (William Frawley):  The character of Fred Mertz was "grumpy", but also quite witty. He was recognized as a serious cheapskate, and always cared about his money first, no matter what situation he was in.  Running the apartment on 623 E. 68th Street wasn't an easy task for him - he usually complained about all of the work he had to do for his tenants.

About the Show

At 9PM on  October 15, 1951, I love Lucy became a hit sensation that swept away America and the rest of the world that continues till this day.  tIt was the first scripted program to be shot on 35 mm film in front of a studio audience. The sitcom centers on unforgettable show-bizz wannabe  redhead, her Cuban bandleader husband and her landlords, who also happen to be their best friends.
